Allergies
An allergy occurs when the immune system reacts to a substance that is usually harmless. Allergies are common and can affect people in many different ways.
Examples include allergies to pollen, house dust mites, certain foods, medicines and substances that come into contact with the skin. Food intolerances can produce similar symptoms, although they do not always involve an allergic immune response.
Possible symptoms include hay fever, skin rashes, itching, hives, digestive complaints and breathing difficulties. In rare cases, an allergic reaction can lead to anaphylaxis, a medical emergency requiring immediate treatment.
Both inherited susceptibility and environmental influences can contribute to the development of allergies. Identifying the relevant triggers is therefore an important part of understanding each person’s situation.
Conventional treatments, such as antihistamines, can relieve symptoms. Depending on the allergy, other approaches, including allergen avoidance or medically supervised immunotherapy, may also be appropriate.
In my practice, I take time to discuss your symptoms, possible triggers and other factors that may be relevant to your individual situation. Together, we explore which supportive approaches may be suitable alongside any necessary medical diagnosis and treatment.
